Peek into the Future of Milner

Marina Fernandes is the former Communications Specialist at EPL.

The revitalization of our Stanley A. Milner Library has been going strong since January 2017, and we’re less than a year away from officially opening our doors and unveiling our bright, new and welcoming space to all of Edmonton.

While the exterior has visibly transformed over time, our interior has also taken shape thanks to the nearly 200 workers on site each and every day.

The progress has been substantial, and we wanted to invite some special guests for an update on our amazing transformation. For the first time in two years, we invited our friends from the media inside the doors of our Milner Library revitalization for a sneak peek on what Edmontonians can expect in 2020.

Excited to see what we've been working on? Here are four updates we just can't wait for you to see for yourself.

1. BIG Children's Library

Our Shelley Milner Children's Library will be triple its size compared to the current space—growing from 4,000 square feet to over 13,000 square feet. There will more room to play, a very big floor piano (just like the one in the movie, Big), a dedicated Children's Makerspace, robots galore, and so much more!

2. Places for Spaces

Looking for a space to study, read, or just hang out? There will be over 28,000 square feet of community space with some overlooking Churchill Square. This includes meeting spaces, study areas, spaces for collaboration and so much more!

3. A Dynamic Digital Display

Something we are exceptionally excited about is our multi-story interactive simulation wall. This will facilitate hands-on, interactive learning as well as large-scale multimedia presentations. It will be on the main floor of our brand new Library, so customers can experience the digital simulations for themselves!

4. Culinary Curiosity

Interested in a place where you can explore your culinary curiosities? We have 2,100 square feet of space dedicated to a culinary centre intended to support and inspire learning opportunities related to health, nutrition and food literacies.

Have we piqued your interest? Stay tuned for more updates as we get close to our official grand opening in spring 2020.
