HTC Vive

Virtual reality is here! Book time on one of our gaming computers and explore new sights and sounds with the HTC Vive.

What is the Vive?

The Vive is a virtual reality headset that uses room-scale tracking technology, high definition OLED displays, and intuitive motion controls to put you in an immersive simulated environment.

What can I do with the Vive?

Virtual reality is still a relatively new way to engage with media; new applications and interactions are constantly being developed. Some sample experiences people have shared in the Makerspace include:

  • Viewing 360° panoramic movies from exotic locales
  • Exploring haunted mansions
  • Journeying through the human circulation system
  • Collecting chicken eggs
  • Painting with light
  • Spacewalking on the International Space Station
  • Defending an interdimensional rift with sword and shield

The hardware is also available to people who are developing their own VR applications with the Unity game development engine and the SteamVR or OpenVR SDKs.

How do I book time?

Everyone can book up to one hour on our gaming computers with their library card. Please speak with a library staff member at 780-944-5342 to reserve a spot up to a month in advance.
