General Questions
The EPL App requires iOS 15 or higher for Apple devices, and OS 9 or higher for Android devices.
iPhone: EPL has added a shortcut to view On Order titles to the home screen of the app – it’s located just below our Staff Picks.
Android: Scroll past the New at the Library section on the home screen and tap the “View on order titles” buttons. You can filter by format, audience, and more.
iPhone and Android: Tap on the My Borrowing icon on the navigation bar of the EPL App. If you have items due within 3 days, you can view them by tapping “Due soon.”
iPhone: When viewing a title’s details in the app, tap the Borrow tab, then tap the “Availability by location” link to see which branch(es) have copies of the item available.
Android: When viewing a title’s details in the app, tap on the blue Availability by location link above the green Place hold button to view a list of branches with available copies.
When you set preferred locations, those preferred locations with available copies of the title will be shown first.
Tap on the library card icon in the top right corner of the EPL App home screen. This will display your library barcode and card number. To make your library barcode bigger, rotate your device horizontally.
iPhone and Android: When you view a title, community star ratings are shown below the cover image, title, and author information. Reviews from individual community members across BiblioCommons libraries are shown below the title’s description and reviews from critics.
Yes – tap on settings (gear icon) in the top right corner of the home screen. Open the section labelled “customize homescreen.” You can choose which content carousels (New the Library, For Later, Events, etc.) are shown and in which order they appear.
iPhone and Android: Yes – under Settings (gear icon) and Account Settings there is a Manage Cards link below your library card username and barcode. Here, up to 8 family library cards can be added using each library barcode and PIN/password. Switch between cards to see checked out titles and renew items. See our FAQ section on EPL App – Multi-Account feature for more information.
iPhone and Android: Tap on the My Borrowing icon on the navigation bar of the EPL App. The renew button will appear next to items in the “Due soon” and “Due later” section of the Checked Out shelf. A renewal may not be available if an item has other customer holds waiting or if the renewal limit has been exceeded – see EPL’s Borrowing Guide, opens a new window for more information.

Multi-Account Feature
Though this feature is not available in the EPL App at this time, EPL customers can use the free Library Elf, opens a new window service to receive customized email and text message alerts for multiple library cards. Usual SMS carrier fees apply and it’s important to note that Library Elf messages do not replace key email messages you may already receive from EPL.
No – though multiple library cards can be added to the same EPL App, this does not create a linkage or relationship between cards in EPL’s systems. Additionally, cards must be added individually on each device where the EPL App is installed.
To remove access to your library card, change your password/PIN. Changing your password/PIN will also logout of your library account in any other library apps or web browsers where the information is currently remembered.

If you are under 18, you must have your library card guarantor (a parent or legal guardian) update your library card password/PIN.
Full access to the library account is given when a card is added to the EPL App. The device owner can borrow, place holds and renew items on any card added through the multi-account feature. They can also update account settings on any card added through the multi-account feature, such as changing the password/PIN. Additionally, the device owner can see any custom shelves created with the card, access a card’s Borrowing History (if enabled), view past Suggestions for Purchase, and will be able to see reviews or ratings associated with the card.
Library account owners, including card guarantors (for those under 18 years of age), are responsible for items borrowed on each library card. Please see our Borrowing FAQs for more information.
On the app homescreen, select the My Library Card icon . Swipe left or right to find the library card you wish to remove – select the three dot icon on the left above the barcode and select “Remove card.”
Library cards can also be removed from the Settings (gear icon) section under “Manage Cards.”
You can switch between cards when browsing the catalogue or from the My Borrowing section of the app. When on those pages, the current library card in use is represented by a circle icon with the first letter of the first name of the borrower, located in the top right corner of the screen. When you tap on this icon, the library cards added to the EPL App appear in a pop-up list from the bottom of the screen. Tap on another library card to change the current card in use.
The card “in use” can also be changed in Settings (gear icon) under Manage Cards.
You do not have to switch a card to “in use” for the card to scan at checkout.

You will need the library barcode and PIN/password for each library card you plan to add to the app. Library cards will need to be registered for an EPL BiblioCommons account to participate. You can register a library card with BiblioCommons by heading to My EPL, opens a new window on the website – additionally, the EPL App will prompt you to register a library card if it hasn’t been registered previously.
Yes! Easily keep track of items your family has borrowed by adding and accessing up to 8 library cards in the EPL App! When library cards are added to the app, you can switch between cards to view checked out items, renew items, and see what is due soon. Heading to your favourite library branch for a visit?
