On June 23, 2026, Adobe began transitioning Adobe IDs used with Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to ByteBooks.

What does this mean for me?

You will continue to use Adobe Digital Editions to borrow and read eBooks. You do not need to install a new version of the app, and your existing borrowed and purchased eBooks will remain available. The only change is that the Adobe ID previously used to authorize ADE is being replaced with a free ByteBooks account.

    • If you are new to Adobe Digital Editions, create a free ByteBooks account before downloading and authorizing ADE.
    • If you already use Adobe Digital Editions, you do not need to take any action unless you need to authorize or re-authorize ADE on a device. If prompted, create a free ByteBooks account using the same email address as your Adobe ID. You can create your account and verify your email address by visiting the Adobe transition page or the ByteBooks website.

Please note: Adobe Digital Editions will continue to display "Adobe ID" during the authorization process. When prompted, sign in using your ByteBooks email address and password.

We license our digital content from a number of companies (library vendors). The vendors require us to only allow our customers to access their products. For most products we are only licensed for the citizens of Edmonton. Your library card confirms your identity for the library vendors websites.
