Edmonton Public Library Reopening Plan: Update #1

Dear Library Customer,

As you know, the Edmonton Public Library (EPL) has been closely monitoring the developments related to COVID-19. This is a constantly evolving situation and we continue to work collaboratively with City of Edmonton and Alberta Health officials to ensure EPL practices align with new information as it is available.

In our last update we shared our first step towards reopening with our holds pickup service, Library Takeout. We heard from many of you on your excitement to return to the Library and the desire to access more physical materials. We are listening and remain committed to meeting your needs where possible, while following the public health restrictions in place.

Today we’re thrilled to introduce Library , opens a new windowExpress Checkout, opens a new window, EPL’s new self-service approach to accessing select library materials and holds. With this new service, you can visit participating EPL locations in-person to pick up your holds and access new items in our collection through Hits-to-Go and Staff Picks. Library Express Checkout will have reduced hours, branch capacity, and physical distancing measures in place to adhere to the guidelines set by Alberta Health Services. The health and safety of our staff and customers remain our top priority.

Library Express Checkout is now available at our Clareview Branch, Lois Hole Library and Mill Woods Branch and will soon be expanded to other locations. Customers will be able to place holds on Monday, July 6.

If you have materials you would like to return at one of the locations offering Library Express Checkout, please use the outside 24-hour material return chutes to return any borrowed items. Items will be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours before they are processed as recommended by the Canadian Urban Library Council and Provincial Government.
