Community Experts:opens a new window Are you a tech wizard? Overflowing with digital creativity? Share your specialized knowledge with Edmontonians in creative software, digital media, and other technologies by designing and hosting workshops, events, or instruction sessions in the EPL Makerspace.

Literacy And Learning

Reading Buddies: Teens ages 13-17 only.  Share your time and enthusiasm mentoring kids in grades 2 to 4 through one-on-one reading and interactive games.

Copains de lecture: Pour les ados de 13 à 17 ans seulement. Donner de votre temps et votre enthousiasme pour encadrer les enfants de la 2e à la 4e année qui lisent en français, par le biais de lectures individualisées et de jeux interactifs. Offert dans la succursale Idylwylde (Bonnie Doon) seulement.

Reading Rockstars: Show kids how to rock with literacy and technology. As a Reading Rockstars volunteer, you’ll support EPL staff facilitating the Reading Rockstars Program at select Edmonton elementary schools.

Community Experts: Butcher, baker, or candlestick maker – do you have a specialized skill, talent, or hobby to share with your community? Volunteer to design and host a workshop, event or instruction session at the library in your areas of expertise.

Interpreter: Assist newcomers in developing their computer skills.  Enhance learning of participants in EPL's English Language Learners Computer Program by helping participants to follow instructions and activities in one of the following languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, Tagalog and Urdu.

Homework HelpDo you have a passion for sharing knowledge and helping students succeed in school? EPL is looking for volunteers with Math and/or Essay Writing expertise at the junior high and high school levels, to assist students with homework help and exam readiness.

Resume Prep and Job Applications Navigator: Support job seekers with resumes, cover letters and/or job applications.  With your specialized knowledge and experience, you will provide one-on-one support to customers trying to find work.

Behind The Scenes

Welcome Baby in the Community - Kit Preparer: Support early literacy by putting together Welcome Baby packages for infants and their families.

Welcome Baby in the Community - Driver: Deliver Welcome Baby packages from an EPL branch to a Public Health Centre to support early literacy for infants and families. You must have a vehicle for this role.


Home Service Volunteer: EPL helps people with reduced mobility access our services through its Home Service program. Volunteers help by bringing library materials to those unable to visit the library.

Book Sale

Donation Support Volunteer: Sort through generously donated materials at branches and help organize material for EPL's book sales.

Book Sale Volunteer: Use your organizational skills to help stock materials at our popular Books2Buy book sales and raise money to support EPL.

Special Events

Event Assistant Volunteer: Passionate about helping Edmonton? Channel these skills to help make EPL events as vibrant and successful as possible. With a busy schedule of great events, EPL often needs a hand. Locations and events vary.

Mascot: Help provide the friendly, recognizable EPL image to the community at events in an accessible, positive way.

Mascot Handler: Be the voice and caretaker for our mascot, Lynx. Lynx provides the friendly, recognizable EPL image to the community at events in an accessible, positive way.
