Forms Completion Volunteer

Support library customers who have challenges with digital literacy and/or English language skills to review and complete a variety of online or paper government forms, such as Employment Insurance, Citizenship and Immigration.

Volunteer Location

  • Woodcroft (13420 114 Avenue): Saturdays, 11:30-1:30 from May 2 to June 20
  • Mill Woods (2610 Hewes Way): Mondays, 6:30-8:30 from May 4 to June 29
  • Londonderry (Suite 166, Londonderry Mall, 137 Ave 66 Street): Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 from May 5 to June 23

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the customer to complete government forms either online or on paper.
  • Use language skills to support customers who may have difficulty understanding English language documents.

Volunteer Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Proficient in English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to speak, read and write in a language other than English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • High digital literacy skills including typing and website navigation.
  • Excellent technical competence.
  • Critical thinking skills.

Preferred

  • Experience working with newcomers or persons with limited English language skills.
  • Experience helping someone with limited digital literacy skills.
  • Previous experience filling out government related forms for others.

Volunteer Commitment

Length of Commitment

  • One 2 hour shift for 8 weeks

Time Commitment

  • 2 hours once a week for 8 weeks

Orientation / Training

  • Must attend one of the following training sessions
    • Mill Woods Seniors’ Centre (above Mill Woods Branch): Tuesday, April 28, 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
    • Woodcroft: Saturday, April 25, 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

Volunteer Benefits
