Building Communities, One Story at a Time
From Resume to Job Offer
As a refugee, Mandu faced the many challenges that come with starting over in a new country but he was determined to build a better future. Mandu came to the Library looking for assistance with his resume then job applications. He persevered through resource limitations, consistently returning to learn and advance his search.
One Sunday afternoon, he arrived with a new question: “Do I need to rent a suit for my job interview? What should I wear?” Reassured that his current attire was perfectly appropriate, he shifted his focus to interview preparation. With the help of staff and volunteers, Mandu explored strategies, watched instructional videos, and discussed common interview questions.
“You helped me get the perfect job. Thank you.”
A few weeks later, Mandu returned to the library—not for assistance, but to share his success. He had been hired as a greeter at the Royal Alberta Museum, a role he described as “the perfect job” for him. With gratitude in his voice, he said, “I don’t know if you realize, but you are helping so many people. You helped me, and I appreciate it. Thank you.”
For the staff and volunteers who supported Mandu, this moment was profound—a powerful reminder of the impact libraries have in changing lives for the better.
