Call for Applications: Musician in Residence

Are you a musician with a passion for sharing your expertise? Do you love uplifting other musicians while building community? If so, this is the place for you! 

In partnership with Alberta Music and made possible by the 2023 Edmonton JUNOS Host Committee, the Musician in Residence program will support Edmonton’s music community. 

EPL is looking for a passionate and innovative Musician in Residence to provide support to emerging musicians through informal mentorship and programming that meet the needs of Edmonton’s vibrant music scene. 

Responsibilities include:  

  • Maintaining regular office hours at the Stanley A. Milner Library 
  • Establishing informal, ongoing mentorships over the course of the year 
  • Advising emerging and established musicians on any aspect or stage of the composing, performing, producing, and releasing process; or making informed referrals as necessary 
  • Developing, preparing, and presenting new classes and workshops that meet the needs of the music community 
  • Hosting music showcases and panels to engage musicians in the community and draw attention to the importance of Albertan musicians 
  • Representing EPL as the Musician in Residence at community events 
  • Actively seeking out partnership opportunities and promoting EPL in the community 
  • Act as the lead curator and jury member for Capital City Records during the open submissions cycle  

Job Requirements: 

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a musician, including performing for live audiences and releasing music available for the broader public
  • Experience with and knowledge of the Edmonton music community 
  • Experience utilizing sound editing software and audio equipment 
  • Experience in effective goal setting, action plans and evaluation of successes and failures  
  • Experience planning and delivering classes and workshops is preferred 
  • Currently working on a music project intended for performance or release

Note: 

  • Satisfactory background screening is required for this position, which includes a Criminal Record Check/Police Information Check.  
  • Subject to variable hours of work and scheduling may vary based on operational needs. 

Hours of Work: 10 hours per week. This position may include days, evenings and/or weekends. Scheduling of office hours and programming will be flexible in order to allow for time to work on personal projects.

Pay: This is a 11-month non-renewable contract from July 2, 2024 to May 30, 2025. Monthly remuneration of $1818 for a total of $20,000.

  • List of ideas with brief descriptions for library workshops and community programming 
  • One letter of reference from a member of the music community

  • Description of a personal music project or projects to be undertaken throughout the residency
