EPL introduces LitLove

New mobile app to match users based on EPL borrowing history

For immediate release:

EDMONTON, AB, April 1, 2017 – Single Edmontonians with a passion for reading can now find love based on proximity and their literary interests. Similar to Tinder or Bumble, this new app from the Edmonton Public Library is called LitLove.

If a Jane Eyre zealot comes across a Fifty Shades of Grey fanatic, they simply swipe left to show their disinterest, saving their right-swipes for the next Pride and Prejudice enthusiast who comes along. The best part is all of this can be done between chapters of your most recently downloaded eBook from EPL. Finding love has never been so easy!

“EPL’s mission is to share, whether that be through lending a book, hosting a storytime or nurturing a budding romance,” said Pilar Martinez, CEO of EPL. “Our greatest goal as an organization, other than lifelong learning and sharing knowledge, is that all our customers find their soul mates.

EPL will launch the new app to adult library cardholders on May 1, 2017 as part of a two-year pilot program. The new app comes as a result of a recent census, which found that almost 30% of Edmontonians are single, and 19% of those individuals have an EPL card.

“Falling in love with a book isn’t very different from falling in love with a human; Litlove is the natural next step for EPL,” said Mayor Don Iveson. “Innovative ideas like this are what make Edmonton great.”

LitLove will match users based on their literary interests using existing data gathered from EPL’s database. The app will also provide proximity matches to encourage random love pairings in our branches.
