Introducing Ramey Demian
Meet Ramey Demian, who is running to join our City Council in ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi. We have asked all candidates to share their thoughts on the Edmonton Public Library through a short questionnaire. Here's what Ramey had to say.
Q&A with Ramey Demian
What is your favourite library memory or experience?
I had a chance to join a cooking class at the library, and I also spent time doing research from old news clips. Those moments showed me how the library is not just about books—it’s about skills, history, and connection.
What is one book you think everyone should read and why?
You may laugh, but for me it’s Oliver Twist. It opens your eyes to poverty, resilience, and the importance of compassion in society—themes that are still very relevant today.
What vital role does EPL play in a thriving and vibrant Edmonton?
The library is vital in every society. For Edmonton, EPL provides more than access to books—it’s a hub for learning, culture, technology, and community. It gives everyone, no matter their background, a place to belong and grow.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned at your local library?
That libraries are about people, not just books. They are safe spaces where everyone belongs, and where curiosity is encouraged no matter your age or background.
If you could host a program at the library, what would it be about?
I would host a program on How to File a Property Tax Appeal. Many people find the process overwhelming, but it’s important to know your rights and how to navigate the system. Sharing that knowledge could empower more Edmontonians to advocate for themselves.
