Play Space Support Volunteer

Help our young customers play in an environment built just for them in the Children's Library of the newly renovated Stanley A. Milner Library. Help enhance customer experience by suggesting play activities and playing with children and their families / caregivers. Support a welcoming environment of inspiration, imagination and discovery by tidying and cleaning toys and materials.

Volunteer Location

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with EPL. There are no volunteer opportunities for this role at this time.

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Play with children and their parents / caregivers through interactions that may include building, colouring, loose-part play or game-playing
  • Tidy, replenish and clean on-the-floor play materials, and tidy the library space during and after play activities

Volunteer Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Enjoy interacting with children aged 0-12 and their families / caregivers
  • Ability to bend, squat, pick up small objects and sit on the floor
  • Ability to use cleansing products (e.g. Lysol wipes)
  • Ability to be imaginative and creative
  • Ability to adapt to different children’s play needs and participate with them in a child-led manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • 15+ years old
  • Clear police information check

Preferred

  • Experience engaging with children and their families
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is an asset

Volunteer Commitment

Length of Commitment

  • This role is long term ongoing with a minimum six month commitment

Time Commitment

  • One to two shift(s) every two weeks
  • Three hour shifts
  • Schedule will be based on volunteer availability
  • Preference will be given to volunteers who can volunteer twice a month from October to June.

Orientation / Training

Accepted Volunteers must attend the mandatory training session to be held at the Stanley A. Milner Library prior to your first volunteer shift.
