Volunteer Interpreter

The Edmonton Public Library's Computer Skills Program helps newcomers develop their technology/digital literacy skills. Volunteer interpreters assist in providing translation to participants to enhance their learning and understanding of the program.

Volunteer Location

Woodcroft Branch- 13420 114 Ave NW, Edmonton

  • Dates: Wednesdays from June 12, 2024 to July 31, 2024
  • Times: 6pm-9pm
  • Mandatory Orientation/Training to take place on May 13, 2024 from 6:30pm-8:30pm
  • Language requirement: Tigrinya

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Help program participants to follow program instructions and activities by relaying instructions to participants in the following language: Tigrinya

Volunteer Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Fluent in both oral and written English and in the following language: Tigrinya.
  • Knowledgeable in basic computer applications.
  • Effective communications skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience when working with participants.
  • Ability to work effectively, independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Clear up-to-date Police Information Check

Preferred

  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Teaching in a group setting.

Volunteer Commitment

Length of Commitment

  • 8 week commitment
  • Volunteer must be able to attend all sessions.
