Summer reading is important and fun

Did you know that kids can lose up to a month of learning during the summer months? [1] This phenomenon is called the “summer slide” or “summer learning loss” and it can affect all kids.

The good news is that there is a simple (and free) solution to this problem.

Studies show that reading just a few books throughout the summer can make a huge difference in combatting summer learning loss, especially in terms of reading comprehension and writing skills, two areas that can enhance performance in all other subjects.

More importantly, and contrary to popular belief, the majority of kids actually like to read during the summer. [2] The trick is to let your child choose the books and be sure to include a few challenging reads.
