Building Communities, One Story at a Time

Finding Connection Through Library Programs

Over the past six months, while on parental leave with my now 18-month-old son, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in Sing, Sign, Laugh & Learn sessions at the Jasper Place Library, Lynnwood Community League, and Willowby Community League. These programs have been a fantastic way to introduce my son to other children, learn new songs, and share a love of books together.

I want to highlight the incredible impact Anna, the class facilitator has had on my experience with EPL programming. Her warm, engaging, and enthusiastic approach made every session memorable, creating a welcoming space for both children and caregivers. My son quickly formed a connection with her and eagerly looked forward to seeing her each week.

“These programs have been a fantastic way to introduce my son to other children, learn new songs, and share a love of books together.”

As a stay-at-home father, I have often found myself as the only man in these sessions, which can sometimes feel isolating. However, Anna always made me feel included and valued, treating me no differently than any other parent or caregiver. Her inclusive and supportive nature reflects EPL’s dedication to ensuring its spaces and programs are welcoming to everyone, regardless of gender, background, or ability.

I truly appreciate the work EPL does to foster community and connection through programs like Sing, Sign, Laugh & Learn and staff, who make these experiences so impactful. Thank you for your commitment to creating spaces where all families feel welcome and supported.
