0Stella

0Stella – that’s a zero upfront – is an Alt-Rock Irish Fusion artist based in Edmonton, Alberta, blending gritty rock with Irish fiddle, bodhrán, and rebellious pop melodies. Inspired by PJ Harvey’s song “Oh, Stella,” her name celebrates the power of opposites and her commitment to authenticity and balance, both in art and life.

Her latest album Pendulum State (2025), described as “a perfect balance between confession and venom,” tackles themes of addiction and recovery, debuting at #1 on CJSR, #5 on CKUA, and breaking onto the Earshot National Charts at #180. With nearly 10,000 km of cycle touring, 0Stella embodies adventure, community, and care for self, others, and the environment.

Her shows feature crowd sing-alongs in both English and Irish, drawing audiences into her vibrant world of rhythm and storytelling. Whether performing solo for Oscar-winner Glen Hansard or fronting her 5-piece band, she delivers a sound that’s raw, powerful, and deeply human.

Buscadero Magazine (Italy) calls her “a meeting point between stage sweat, studio refinement, and personal poetics, entrusted to a strong and razor-sharp voice.” Her upcoming album Time Under Tension (autumn 2026) transforms road stories into anthems of reflection and resilience—music as impactful as it is loud.

Meet the Capital City Records Jury

From April 10 - May 10, 2025, musicians will have the opportunity to submit their work for review by an esteemed jury of five accomplished activators from the local music community, facilitated through the Edmonton Public Library’s submissions process.

This year's jury is comprised of celebrated artists, promoters, talent buyers, producers and radio hosts who've collaborated with some of the biggest names in Canada's music scene. Their passion for local arts has played a crucial role in helping Edmonton’s local music community thrive. Together, the jury’s diverse interests, background, and profound knowledge of the local music scene will help us create a collection that reflects the diversity and excellence of Edmonton’s musical landscape.

Events

Throughout the year, EPL hosts Capital City Records concerts, partnering with local festivals and music organizations along with hosting live music performances and music programming in our branches. Check out pictures from our past events and stay tuned for more information about future events!

Riversides: The Capital City Record

Supporting Milner Studios

To raise support and awareness for the new free recording studios at Stanley A. Milner Library, we produced a limited edition compilation on vinyl, a first for public libraries.

Every element of its production was local. A jury of local music experts selected previously unreleased tracks submitted by Edmonton musicians and the record—pressed at Moonshot Phonographs—launched as an official Record Store Day release at Blackbyrd Myoozik on April 13, 2019.

The project was made possible through support of the Edmonton Arts Council who funded the album artwork and musician honorariums. If you would like to purchase a copy, please contact us at localmusic@epl.ca.

About the Artwork

Jill Stanton is a Canadian artist and muralist, with private and public clients nationwide.

"For the Capital City Records album artwork, I wanted to create a dreamy interpretation of the river valley through each season. The black background help the bright colours burst forward, and the cutout shapes create an all-over pattern where small 'easter eggs' hidden in the composition pop forward with a second visual pass. The sihouetted figures interact with giant instruments and organic elements, heightening the surreal, dream-life feel of the piece." — Jill Stanton
