Larry and Louise Charach Library School

Make the Stanley A. Milner Library your classroom for a week!

The Larry and Louise Charach Library School is a site-based school program operating within the Inquiring Minds network. The field trip welcomes grade five students to explore the Stanley A. Milner Library in an active and hands-on way.

Through the generous support of the Charach family, this week-long program is free. Transportation and lunch support are also available to ensure that the program is accessible to all. We book approximately sixteen trips per year.

Selected grade five teachers collaborate with EPL’s teacher-librarian to create a customized learning plan that utilizes EPL’s collection, Makerspace, Kitchen, and interactive Digital Wall to engage with Alberta curricula in a fun and exciting way.

Program Details

Each class focuses their experience on a guiding inquiry question, such as:

“How can we use community resources to develop literacy skills?”

With this focus in mind, students explore the library through a variety of learning activities such as journalling, 3-D printing, coding, cooking, creative writing, performance, and finding great things to read.

Throughout the week, students also learn about the history of EPL, the people who make it great, and how libraries have continued to evolve as the best place to read, experience, and learn.

Join us for an engaging week that nurtures a love of learning and libraries.
