National Child Day
November 20 marks National Child Day, an annual celebration of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). This year’s theme highlights Article 30, which protects every child’s right to practice their own culture, religion, and language.
Celebrating Article 30 means recognizing that every child carries unique cultural strengths and perspectives that enrich our communities. Every young person deserves the opportunity to express themselves, connect with their heritage, and take pride in who they are.
Why We Celebrate
National Child Day is celebrated across Canada to acknowledge the importance of children’s rights and our country’s commitment to upholding them.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) outlines 54 rights that help children and youth be safe, healthy, and included. These rights are often grouped under three key pillars:
- Protection – The right to be safe
- Provision – The right to be healthy
- Participation – The right to be yourself and to be heard
This year, we are proud to highlight Article 30, which protects every child’s right to celebrate their identity and share their voice.
