CEO Opportunity

Reporting to and advising the EPL Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for providing vision and leadership to EPL by driving the strategy and operational oversight of the organization. This CEO is responsible for continually improving operations, engaging employees, building on the success of innovative services, and ensuring EPL continues to strengthen its role as a key institution in the city of Edmonton. As the primary liaison between the Board and the organization, the CEO ensures sound governance and fiscal responsibility, while serving as EPL’s ambassador to municipal leaders, partner organizations, and the broader community. With the planned departure of the current CEO, this appointment represents both a pivotal leadership transition and an opportunity to reinforce alignment, inspire confidence, and position EPL for its next chapter of impact.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate brings senior level management experience in a complex, unionized, urban library system. They bring demonstrated strength in strategic planning, financial stewardship, labour and people leadership, and oversight of distributed operations. The ability to implement a vision, manage a complex budget, and lead a passionate and distributed team is required. The role is ideally suited to leaders with a strong commitment to EPL’s values and who can cultivate positive and effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external partners including the Board, City, staff, and community partners.
