Introducing Jon Morgan
Meet Jon Morgan, who is running to join our City Council in ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi. We have asked all candidates to share their thoughts on the Edmonton Public Library through a short questionnaire. Here's what Jon had to say.
Q&A with Jon Morgan
What is your favourite library memory or experience?
Bringing my son to Highlands Branch to look for books when he was a toddler discovering new books and playing with toys in the kids area.
What is one book you think everyone should read and why?
The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Despite the heavy subject matter, I find the story strangely hopeful with the father and son carrying on despite the post-apocalyptic landscape they're navigating. I also enjoyed the bond between father and son.
What vital role does EPL play in a thriving and vibrant Edmonton?
Free access to communal public spaces in Edmonton with access to learning materials, books, A/V, toys, games, programs, and creator tools. It gives Edmontonians one of the only spaces they can freely exist in plus share, learn, and contribute.
If you could be any fictional character, who would you be and why?
Steve Rogers. Despite any challenge, big or small, he always is willing to stand for what is right, not what is easy.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned at your local library?
The value of free public spaces. Providing space for people to just exist in without need to pay, travel, or work in is a sign of a healthy society and needed for all Edmontonians.
If you could host a program at the library, what would it be about?
- How to step into municipal politics, what are the pitfalls, and what are the obligations.
- Band camp and recording studio basics.
