Introducing Jason Bale
Meet Jason Bale, who is running to join our City Council in Ward Karhiio. We have asked all candidates to share their thoughts on the Edmonton Public Library through a short questionnaire. Here's what Jason had to say.
Q&A with Jason Bale
What is your favourite library memory or experience?
I don't have one specific memory there that stands out as a favourite. I've appreciated the learning opportunities over the years and have found the library to be a vital part of my community.
What is one book you think everyone should read and why?
Fahrenheit 451 because it illustrates how empty the world is when there are no books.
What vital role does EPL play in a thriving and vibrant Edmonton?
I believe EPL is vital because it gives youth a low-barrier opportunity to engage in productive activities. Whether it's reading, gaming, 3D printing their art projects, or something else, there is a space for people to go.
No matter what their interests are or barriers they may face when accessing other services, the library is, and always should be, available for them to access.
If you could be any fictional character, who would you be and why?
Elminster. He's a powerful wizard that uses his magic for good, and to fight the biggest of evils.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned at your local library?
The biggest lesson I learned was how impactful the libraries actually are. My primary usage for the library is when I need to print something, however, I always see many other people there enjoying the variety of services the library has to offer.
If you could host a program at the library, what would it be about?
It would be an eSports program. I would like to help aspiring gamers understand and overcome the barriers to entry, how to build themselves in the industry, and put Edmonton on the map in the eSports arena.
