Freedom to Read Week (Feb. 21 to 27, 2010) is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, which is guaranteed them under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
This year, EPL will host several activities and events that celebrate everyone's freedom to read, speak, view, listen, create, and perform.
Freedom Challenge - What does freedom of expression look or sound like to you? Show us by submitting a photo, video, story, song, poem, drawing...whatever makes you think of freedom of expression.
Freedom Ball - Join us for EPL's first-ever freedom party on Feb. 27, 2010 at the new Art Gallery of Alberta. Listen to The People's Poets rap about social justice issues. Read, hear, and watch submissions from the Celebrate Freedom Challenge
Banned Books Café - Step up to the mic and show your support for intellectual freedom by reading a short passage from your favourite banned or challenged book.
Freedom to View - Come celebrate your freedom to watch a film considered controversial.
More - EPL branches will be hosting other Freedom to Read activities. Visit epl.ca or your local branch to find out more.
