Our catalogue is intermittently unavailable. We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

All EPL locations are temporarily closed for in-branch visits until further notice to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Library Takeout is available at select locations. Find our locations.

EPL Reopening

All branches are temporarily closed for in-branch visits. You can still access library materials using our contactless holds pickup service, Library Takeout! Follow this page for updates and view updated branch hours by location.

Library Takeout Service

Good news! Starting Monday, Feb. 22, we are expanding Library Takeout to include Mondays across all Library Takeout locations. Hours of operation will be 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays. View a complete list of hours by location.

How It Works

Please note: Once you've been notified that your hold is ready, you have one week to pick it up at a Library Takeout branch.

If you have a cell phone:

  • When you arrive, call the phone number posted on the exterior of the branch, which is the same as our branch contact numbers listed on hours and locations. Let staff know that you would like to pick up your holds and be prepared to share your library card number.
  • When ready, your holds will be on a table in a bag with your name on it.

If you don't have a cell phone:

  • Call the branch ahead of time to let us know when you will be arriving.
  • When you arrive, hold up a piece of paper with your name at the door for staff to see.

If you cannot make a phone call:

  • Text 587-817-0337 to make arrangements to pick up your hold at your branch.
  • When you arrive, hold up a piece of paper with your name at the door for staff to see.

Borrowing and Returns

All EPL locations are temporarily closed due to COVID-19. Customers can place holds online and pick them up using Library Takeout, our contactless holds pickup service. If you have materials you would like to return, use the 24-hour material return chutes.

As of Monday, Feb. 1, EPL will no longer quarantine library materials. For you, this change means a better library experience—you won’t have to wait as long for library materials—while maintaining everyone's health and safety.

EPL continues to evolve and adjust our plans as new information comes to light and public health measures change. We closely monitor the developments related to COVID-19 and we continue to use an evidence-based approach to inform decisions around the relaunch of our services and safety protocols. According to the latest scientific evidence, the risk of transmission of the COVID-19 virus through inanimate surfaces (such as library materials) is very unlikely. The Government of Alberta is no longer mandating the quarantine measure and other libraries across the province will be discontinuing the practice in the coming weeks.

At the beginning of the pandemic, out of an abundance of caution, EPL quarantined library materials as it was unclear how the COVID-19 virus was transmitted. Frequent handwashing or sanitizing, wearing a mask and maintaining physical distance of at least two metres remain the best defences against the virus.

  • Most items can be borrowed for up to three weeks, except Hits-to-Go items (which are one-week borrowing). For example, books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, videogames and interlibrary loans. Please return the items on time so we can share them with others.

  • The Library is cleaned and thoroughly disinfected based on AHS guidelines in addition to regularly scheduled cleaning using the Clorox® Total 360 System. EPL staff working inside the Library are required to wear a face covering, practise good hand hygiene and maintain a distance of at least two metres from each other.
