For immediate release:
EDMONTON, AB, February 7, 2017 – Customers continue to be provided with fabulous library services in Edmonton’s downtown core while the Edmonton Public Library’s Stanley A. Milner Library undergoes a three-year, $69 million renovation.
The amazing transformation of the Stanley A. Milner Library will result in a beautiful, vibrant, efficient and functional downtown branch better suited to the needs of Edmontonians. In the meantime, a 17,000 square foot temporary location has opened in Enterprise Square at 10212 Jasper Avenue.
“Continuity of library services in downtown Edmonton was essential,” said Pilar Martinez, Chief Executive Officer of the Edmonton Public Library. “After examining a number of options, we were so pleased to secure the space at Enterprise Square with the University of Alberta.”
Since opening on January 3, 2017, the Enterprise Square Branch has had an average of 2,000 visitors each day – ranking it the second busiest location in the city following Mill Woods. The branch offers the broad range of library services found at all EPL locations, as well as a makerspace, sound booths, social workers and settlement services.
EPL is also exploring options to ensure the library’s reach and impact only continues to widen. These include pop-up computer labs and other library services, as well as bringing more services outside library walls through ongoing collaboration with agencies and organizations.
At a grand opening and open house event for the Enterprise Square Branch on Tuesday, EPL offered tours, demonstrations of makerspace equipment and software, and more – and also announced another major fundraising gift towards the Stanley A. Milner Library Revitalization project, bringing the library closer to its $10 million goal.
The $500,000 gift comes from the Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund.
“On behalf of all the members, we would like to say how proud we are to be part of this spirited and vibrant Edmonton Public Library revitalization, and continuing to make a difference in this community and in the lives of Edmontonians,” said Brenda Waluk, Chair of the Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund.
