Great libraries shape great cities. They are instrumental to the economic, social and cultural foundation of a vibrant society.
The Edmonton Public Library serves Edmonton's 932,000 residents and is the second most visited destination in the city.
In 2016 alone, the Library welcomed more than 16.9 virtual and in-person visitors. A whopping 265,605 Edmontonians used their library card to borrow 12 million items and attend one of 20,183 free programs.
The Library provides an open, inviting, safe, fun and inclusive public space where everyone is welcome to learn, create, discover and grow. With outreach workers, early literacy programs, resources for newcomers and more, there's something for everyone at EPL.
As Edmonton continues to grow, EPL's role as an educational resource, open and accessible meeting place and catalyst for transforming communities is even more important. The tremendous impact EPL has on Edmonton is made possible with the support of City Council.
