EPL SQUARED - Your Library Inside Out!

EPL Squared | Friday, Aug. 26, 2011 | 10am to 9pm | Churchill Square

The Edmonton Public Library is taking over Churchill Square with our first-ever EPL Squared outdoor book sale and library festival. Some of the great activities will include our famous Books2Buy book sale (with all proceeds going to support the Slave Lake Public Library), our popular Human Library where people can "borrow" real people with interesting stories to tell, and lots of other activities and programs targeted to kids, families and adults all day including storytimes, music, a treasure hunt, games, food and more. It's a fun day for all ages!

After the event, we're also inviting people back to the Stanley A. Milner Library Theatre (across the street) for an interactive movie night - an audience participation screening of The Princess Bride. So dress up like your favourite character!

We share. Take our stuff home with you... and keep it!

What is a Human Library?
EPL's Human Library allows readers to "borrow" a Living Book (real people on loan!), and through talking and sharing, learn about the life of a person who at first may seem very different. Human Library events are a way for people to share their stories, gain inspiration, break down barriers and/or erase prejudices that separate people from each other. Readers will learn about the lives of different people, listen to their stories and ask questions about their experiences, lifestyle, job, beliefs and background.

What are Living Books?
Living Books are people who have interesting and/or inspirational stories to tell that are often about the experiences they have faced because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, job, lifestyle or cultural background.

Take a look back at the 2010 LIVING Library photos and 2010 Living Books.

How do I sign out a Living Book?
We have 16 amazing Living Books available in our 2011 Human Library just waiting to be read by you on Friday, August 26. Just click the button below to  preview our Living Book catalogue and reserve the ones you want.

Whether you're 5 or 55, a boy or a girl, EPL Squared has something for everyone...we are the library after all!
