Donating Library Materials

Each branch of the Edmonton Public Library accepts donations of books and other library materials. To make a donation, simply visit your closest branch. The Library is unable to pick up donations of materials.

Before You Donate...

We would be happy to accept:

  • Books that have been purchased within the past five years
  • CDs, DVDs and talking books
We do not accept the following items:
  • Encyclopedias
  • Textbooks
  • Specialized journals
  • Magazines
  • Material in poor condition (yellowed, worn, dusty, damp, mouldy, torn, smelly)
  • Cassettes, videocassettes, LPs, records, software
Except in special circumstances:
  • Donations will be sold at Library book sales, which will generate funds to enhance Library collections and services
  • Charitable tax receipts will not be issued for donated library material (effective June 1st, 2009)

Please check over each item to ensure it meets our donation requirements. When in doubt, give only what you would consider as good quality for your own use. Handling and disposing of unwanted materials costs the Library money.
