Making our great library even better.

Great libraries shape great cities. They are a powerful force in the economic, social and cultural well-being of a vibrant society. We are proud to celebrate 100 years of providing essential services to our great city.

To set the course for our second century, we are focused on accessibility – making certain all Edmontonians have easy and convenient access to the essential services and resources EPL provides.

You can donate online, in person at any of our locations, by phone at 780-496-1856 or by mail at the address listed below.

Welcome Baby in the Community

Welcome Baby in the Community is an expansion of our partnership with Alberta Health Services to deliver our award-winning programs and services for babies and  preschoolers outside the walls of the library and in the community, through public health clinics as part of the two-month  immunization process.

A library card, books and storytimes are the first steps to a love of reading, and we want every child in Edmonton to have equal access to early literacy resources essential to success in school and life.

The estimated cost of the program materials is $375,000 based on approximately 15,000 annual births in the Edmonton area and $25 per child for early literacy materials.

Approximately $1.875 million will provide program materials for 5 years.

We're bringing back the bookmobile!

Just as we did in 1941 with North America’s first streetcar bookmobile, we’re breaking new ground again.

EPL Literacy Vans will bring the latest technology resources, along with library programs and services, to Edmontonians who don't have easy access to the library  – those who live in new or underserved communities throughout our growing city, including in seniors’ homes, daycares, boys and girls clubs, group homes, schools and more. We do not want location or transportation issues to be a barrier for those groups who need us the most.

Our goal is to have four Literacy Vans - one for each quadrant of the city.

Approximately $1 million will cover the equipment and program costs for four Literacy Vans.

Stay tuned for more details and roll out plans.

Library cards for everyone!

It all starts with a small but powerful card - the gateway to a lifetime of learning and possibilities.  Library cards are FREE in 2013 - our gift to all Edmontonians. With your support we keep library cards FREE for years to come.

Library users and supporters can pay it forward through a donation to EPL that will allow us to keep library cards free in 2014. Give a little today so someone else can enjoy the library tomorrow.

Approximately $630,000 will allow us to keep library cards free in 2014.
