Mill Woods Aboriginal Family Night

Tuesday May 18 is the next date for the Mill Woods Aboriginal Family Night! This month we will be focusing on Mothers, but fathers are welcome too of course! Learn to relax, unwind and de-stress using journaling and Reiki techniques.

After a scrumptious supper of chili and tortillas the children and adults will split up. The adults will go have their fun, get to sit with an Elder, and still be able to watch the children as they play games and make crafts. This month the crafts will be proudly displayed at the Mill Woods Public Library for all to see!

Contact the library at 496-1818 for more information.

Gobble Gobble

Found in: Music
This seems like some pretty big news for one of ours:
Edmonton's Gobble Gobble (Cecil Frena) has been given "standout track" status by sort-of-a-big-deal online hipster mag Pitchfork.com.
Nicely done Mr. Frena!

Alone on these City Streets

Found in: Music
Rick Allan Reid, frontman of the no-longer-Edmonton-based-but-still-very-active rock group The City Streets, once again shakes listeners' souls with a new solo album. With Shadows Reid shares tales about dead dogs, mini-van tours, and Castledowns bedrooms, proving that you can move to Montréal but you're still gonna smell like Edmonton. The album will be released shortly on Clamour Records, but until then you can download it on his myspace page.

"No More Mister Nice Guy"

I know we said that we'd keep it positive, but.....

After a long battle with cancer, rapper Guru died yesterday at the age of 43. Together with DJ Premier, Guru helped define the sound of early and mid 90's rap music. Later in his career, Guru reinvented himself with the Jazzmatazz albums and continued to stand as a relevant and exciting rapper.

"I can not tell a lie......"

It looks as if lying wasn't the only thing George Washington could not do. According to files at New York City's oldest library, the first president of the United States could not return his books on time either. 2 books checked out by Washington - including a title on international relations - were due back Nov. 2, 1789 but were never returned.
