Circulation Division

The Circulation Division is the customer's initial point of contact with the library. Our primary customer service role is to introduce the library, promote its services and make material accessible to customers. We provide in-person and telephone service to customers who require library service information, memberships, account information and reserves, as well as help provide access to our catalogue.

Our Library Assistants purchase and maintain the adult paperback, audio visual and other languages collections, and assist in the maintenance of the hardcover collection. Our Circulation Assistants direct customers to materials, and help maintain the physical integrity of the collection. System wide materials are processed through the checkin/out desks for customers and other library departments.

The Circulation Division offers general interest tours of the Stanley A. Milner Branch. Tours may be booked by calling Customer Service at 496-7070.

The Circulation Division also maintains displays within the Milner Branch. From distributing material with the library system to maintaining the branch's art gallery space, the Customer Staff will do their best to assist.

The Information Services Division staff work with customers to find information - any information, whether it's a statistic on Canada's economy, an address for a famous actress, or a bit of trivia - like why are barns red? Our staff use traditional sources, such as encyclopedias and directories, and newer resources in electronic format.

Back in 1898, a magazine article said that librarians should have "the learning of a Bacon and the divining power of a wizard." Our staff are well-read and knowledgeable, and while we can't claim wizardry, we are expert sleuths when it comes to finding information - on the web or in paper. We're happy to show you how to use our information resources or to track down elusive information for you.

We provide reference service for in-person customers, as well as by telephone (496-7020), fax (496-7001), and through our e-ref service.

Our Smart Search service provides customized and in-depth information searches for a moderate fee for business and other clients.

The Information Services Division offers instructional tours which provide a general overview of information resources. Groups and classes are welcome to contact us to book a tour (496-8322).
